More than 7 billion minutes of voice traffic and 6 billion minutes of data traffic were carried over 2 million access lines via the eircom network, keeping Irish people in touch with one another and with the world and driving commercial success for indigenous and foreign companies.

In this first annual report since eircom's relaunch as a public company, the chairman Sir Anthony O'Reilly welcomes eircom back to public ownership and the CEO Dr Philip Nolan reviews a successful year for the group.

1 million broadband lines from Westport to Wicklow - one total commitment

Already, over 1 million lines are broadband enabled, which makes this technology available to the large majority of our customers. As Ireland's leading internet service provider, we provide over 500,000 internet connections.

We have a programme in place to ensure that by March 2005, every town in Ireland with a population greater than 1,500 will be covered, making businesses more successful and making life easier for consumers.

The employees of eircom have been the longest supporters of the Irish Special Olympics team and this year welcomed the Games to Ireland.
